What hs-CRP measures

C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced by the liver in response to inflammation anywhere in the body. The high-sensitivity version (hs-CRP) can detect very low levels of chronic systemic inflammation — the kind that doesn't cause obvious symptoms but silently drives atherosclerosis, neurodegeneration, insulin resistance, and cellular aging.[1]

Acute CRP (from infection or injury) can reach 100+ mg/L. Chronic low-grade inflammation — the kind hs-CRP is designed to detect — operates in the 0.5–10 mg/L range, well below what triggers any clinical concern but meaningfully above optimal.

What drives chronic inflammation
