What elevated fasting insulin reveals

When cells become less sensitive to insulin's signal, the pancreas compensates by secreting more insulin to maintain normal blood glucose. This compensatory hyperinsulinemia can persist for years before glucose rises — meaning your glucose looks fine while insulin is already elevated and metabolic stress is accumulating.[1]

Elevated fasting insulin is an early-warning signal that your cells are becoming resistant to insulin. Left unaddressed, it typically progresses to pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and associated cardiovascular risk over years to decades.

What not to overreact to

  • A single reading if you did not fast adequately (requires 8–12 hours, water only).
